The speaker commands are M and L. M controls WHEN the speaker will be
ON/OFF, L controls volume. M1 is default (ON until you connect then OFF)
and L2 (medium volume) is default. ATL1 = soft ATL3 = LOUD Put the ATLx
(or ATMx) command in your inititalization string or type ATLx or ATMx (x= 0
or 1 or 2 or 3) in terminal mode. ATM0 = speaker always OFF. ATM2 = speaker
always ON. ATM3 = ON during answer only.
If the speaker is STILL to loud and you don't want it OFF altogether,
try muffling it with some cotton or cloth.
If the software you have to use, doesn't let you change the init
string or dial string, you can SAVE the change in any communicaion program
with terminal mode. Type ATLxMx&W (where 'x' is the setting you want).
In MTEZ ATL1 or ATM0 goes in Setup 'USER' (& call progress in CAS
SETUP is set to NONE). In other programs insert into the INIT or DIAL
string.
Some rare cases the speaker may make a noise when you are using the
computer. Most of the time this happens, it will STOP, once you issue any
AT command to the modem.
If you are trying to hear the progress with a dialer program, you can
put a 'Y' connector in the 'wall' jack of the modem and plug both the wall
wire and your phone in the adapter.
